Learn more about Al Petteway

Take a creative journey through music and photography with Al Petteway.  Some of the time at the retreat will be spent learning fingerstyle guitar techniques and creating original compositions and arrangements.  Much of the rest of the time will be spent photographing the natural beauty of the Big Island of Hawaii. Volunteers will be asked to share their photos in positive critique sessions in which Al will use computer software to display the digital images and illustrate ways they can be improved.  Al’s wife Amy White, an accomplished musician and photographer in her own rite, will be on hand to assist Al when necessary in both the guitar and photography portions of the retreat.

The goal is to get a better understanding of the elements needed to make an effective work of art, no matter what the medium.  This will all be done in a non-competitive environment designed to nurture the artist in all who attend.  It is a unique opportunity to have fun and share creative ideas in an inspirational environment unlike any other.

No photography experience is necessary, but participants must bring their own digital cameras.  The photography portion of the retreat will be geared toward amateur photographers who use digital pocket cameras or who generally shoot photos on the "auto" setting, but want to learn how to make those photos look more "professional."

Guitarists must have a working knowledge of the guitar and bring their own acoustic guitars along with a capo and tuning device.  Audio recording of the sessions is encouraged.
